The waiting places
Report
The Jury composed of: Ugo La Pietra, Designer and Theorist of Applied Arts at the Polytechnic in Milan; Vittorio Fagone, Historian of Applied Art at the New York University, absent with notice; François Burkhardt former Editor of IDZ, Berlin and former Director of the Centre Pompidou in Paris and Editor of the Domus magazine; Ettore Mocchetti, Designer and Editor of AD; Aldo Colonetti Editor of Ottagono; Giorgio Morelato, President of the Aldo Morelato Foundation.
The Jury assembled on 15th June 2006 at 3.00 p.m. at the “Villa Dionisi” seat of the Aldo Morelato Foundation in Cerea (VR) after an attentive examination of all projects and their respective papers, as the rules prescribe, and after having eliminated the projects, which did not fully abide the rules of the competition decided as follows:
FIRST PRIZE: “VeronaFiere-Centro servizi distretto del mobile” Award
Goes to the the project “Barca, finchè la barca va…..” by Friso Dijkstra from Utrecht (Nederland) with the motivation to have interpreted in a coherent way the theme of the competition, developing through a complete and defined project an object of territorial design.
SECOND PRIZE: “Province of Verona” Award
Goes to the project “Leani” by Jasmine Sybille Kastner from Troestau (Germany) with the motivation to have developed an original and typological invention through a series of quotations.
THIRD PRIZE: “Verona Chamber of Commerce” Award
Goes to the project “ Ramo e ombra” by Michele Marchionni from Pesaro (Italy) with the motivation to have faced with stylistic and constructive coherence the environmental aspect, with elements characterized by a strong artisan component, with naturalistic quotations and dark and light suggestions.
Further special nominations go to the following two projects:
The project Karl I,II,III by the Studio Lupo and Burtscher from Bolzano (Italy), which through some essential elements proposes a series of project varieties related to the theme of the waiting places.
The project Ribarocco by Fabio Vinella from Bari (Italy), for re-interpreting the territorial culture by re-proposing some furniture elements as the clothes-hanger “Tortile”.
SPECIAL AWARD “CITY OF CEREA-SCUOLA APPIO SPAGNOLO”
Goes to the project “Offended man's chair” di Irina Gromyko from Russia, student at the University for Architecture and Civil Engineering of Samara, who using the symbol of a nose, is ironic about the possible relation between this sign and the communication of the “feminine”.
The Jury also mentions the following projects:
The different proposals coming from the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering of Samara from Russia and the project “Tra un ombra e il suo albero” by Manrico Freda, Marco Carbone and Fabio Corradini students at the “Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan (Italy).
The Jury expresses their satisfaction about the high quality of many of the participating projects coming from Italy, Europe and other continents and for the high quality of the presentation of the projects.
