“SIGNIFICANT FURNITURE”

A piece of furniture as an expression of values and meanings



REPORT

The jury composed of: Ugo La Pietra, Designer and Theorist of Applied Art in Furniture; Maurizio Vitta, Teorist and Historian of Arts and of Applied Art in Furniture; Vittorio Fagone, Historian of Arts and Applied Art in Furniture; Enrico Tonucci, Designer; Francois Burkhardt, former Director of the IDZ in Berlin, of the Centre “George Pompidou” in Paris and Editor of the “Domus” Magazine; Giorgio Morelato, President of the Aldo Morelato Foundation.
The Jury assembles on 18th June 2004 at 2.30 p.m. at “Villa Dionisi”, seat of the Aldo Morelato Foundation”, in Cerea (VR), after an attentive examination of all projects and of their respective documentation. as the rules prescribe, and after having eliminated the projects which do not fully abide the rules of the competition, decides as follows:

FIRST PRIZE:
“Province of Verona” Award

To the “SAGOMÈ” project (download Sagome.JPG - 925 K) by Giulia Semeghini from Verona, acknowledging that the project expresses an innovative interpretation of a traditional piece of furniture and production techniques, material assembly, production procedure and decorative elements of the piece of furniture

SECOND PRIZE:
“VeronaFiere” Award

To the project “Blocco di lamiera arrugginita” (download Blocco.JPG - 1117 K) by Gianluca Lanfredi from Cremona, for the innovative idea of a conceptional piece of furniture, strongly characterized, which. although breaking all traditional conventions, maintains its functional complex and a significant presence in space.

THIRD PRIZE:
“Chamber of Commerce Verona” Award

Ex aequo
To the project “Volubile” (download Volubile.JPG - 1053 K) by Corrado Tibaldi and Chiara Vaschetti from Turin and to the project “Tavolo” (download Tavolo.JPG - 568 K) by Silvia Bissoli from Verona, as both projects are in line with present trends in the design field and aim at a traditional use of materials.

Further nominations go to the project “Parassita” by Carlo Trevisani from Milan and “Yogi Sofa” by Ksenija Tarelkina from Letland, for their strong innovative features and stimulating alliance with modern trends.


The Jury expresses satisfaction about the high quality of many of the projects developed by participating students.
They decide to adjudge the
“Scuola Appio Spagnolo” Award
to the project “Modular Love” (download ModularLove.JPG - 427 K) by Davide Carioni from Cremona, for the efficient interpretation of the ecological and contemporary culture, stressing production technique in a new configuration of furniture and its modularity

The Jury also mentions the following projects:
“Divo” by Raffaello Piemonte and Gabriele Robino from Udine;
“La Porta-CD” by Federica Fioroni from Milan;
“Tète a Tète” by Giovanni Giorni from Lucca;
“Cadimo” by Roberto Gonnella and Marco Sciusco from Turin.
