«THE SIGNIFICANT FURNITURE 2007»:
A piece of furniture for reading places
Villa Dionisi, Cerea, 7th May 2007. The fourth edition of the International Days of Study at Villa Dionisi (Ca’ del Lago, Cerea - Verona) will be an interesting event during which several design historians and furniture experts are meeting. On Friday 15 June the meeting is open to the public from 15.45 h. on.
The initiative is part of the project “The Significant Furniture” organized by the Aldo Morelato Foundation in co-operation with the major institutions of the sector: The Council Committee for Production Activities and Economic Promotion of the Verona Province and the Cerea City Council, VeronaFiere, The Verona Chamber of Commerce, the Veneto Region, the Centro Servizi Distretto Mobile and this year also the Istituto Regionale Ville Venete. The project is further promoted by Veronese-Credito Cooperativo di Concamarise Bank and by some important enterprises such as Nuova Comferut srl, leading company in furniture accessories, Berdondini srl and Morelato Mobili.
As during the previous editions also this year famous experts will discuss the theme of applied art in the furniture field. This year’s edition will face the theme of a piece of furniture for reading places. The following experts have been invited:
Frédéric Bodet, Curator Assistant, Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Louvre, Paris;
Luciano Crespi, professor of Design e Arredamento at the Polytechnic of Design in Milan;
Ugo La Pietra, designer and theorist on Applied Art, professor at the Polytechnic of Milan;
Alberto Bassi, professor at the IUAV University- Venice;
Ettore Mocchetti, designer and editor of the “AD” magazine;
Aldo Colonetti, editor of the “Ottagono” magazine.
The meeting is aimed at giving some answers on the production trends in the furniture field. The theme offers the opportunity to consider the tradition of the domestic spaces and in particular the relationship between individuals, the space and the instruments used for different types of reading. Short term reading (newspapers, comics, magazines, documents etc.), reading as a hobby, professional reading (for one’s job), reading during the day time, reading at night; all kinds of reading, many ways of reading, many instruments, many project possibilities. The theme “Furniture for Reading Places” will be the subject of the seminar, and different aspects of the design system and applied art today in Italy will be compared to the wider international scene.
During the International Days the spaces used for the first collection of furniture and furniture elements of the Museum of Applied Art in Contemporary Furniture at Villa Dionisi will be officially opened. On the same occasion the prototype “Right Bed” designed by the artist Luca Maria Patella will be presented. This piece of furniture is inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s, “Apolinèr Enameled” (ready-made modified) from 1916-17, of which Patella catches the visual paradox. The Foundation promotes the production of the piece.
At the end of the day there will be a buffet offered by the Strada del Riso Vialone Nano Veronese Association, and a concert of the “Sound Art Orchestra F.A.M.”, a musical project promoted by the Aldo Morelato Foundation, which on this occasion makes its debut under the direction of Maestro Lino Bragantini.
After the meeting the records of the seminar will be published and will be at the disposal of the experts of the sector. If you wish to receive the records of the meeting, please turn to the Secretary of the Foundation (info@fondazionealdomorelato.org).
