“THE SIGNIFICANT FURNITURE” INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

RECORD The jury composed of: Luciano Crespi, teacher in Design and Furbishing at the Polytechnical of Design in Milan; Ugo La Pietra, designer an theorist of applied art, teacher at the Polytechnical of Milan; Alberto Bassi, teacher at the IUAV University; Ettore Mocchetti, designer, editor of the “AD” magazine; Alberto Prina editor of the Dossier Habitat magazine; Giorgio Morelato, President of the Aldo Morelato Foundation. Frederic Bodet and Aldo Colonnetti were absent with notice.

The jury united on the 14 June at 3 p.m. at ”Villa Dionisi” the seat of the Aldo Morelato Foundation in Cerea (VR), after an attentive study of the partecipating projects and the technical papers, which respected the rules, and after having excluded those projects which did not fully respect the conditions indicated in the rules of the competition, decided to assign the prizes as follows:

FIRST PRIZE: the “Verona Fiere - Centro servizi distretto del mobile” prize to the project
“Louis XXI” (download firstprize2007.jpg) by Francesco Cappuccio, Tailand, for a piece of furniture with a strong ironic connection to classicism in which an image with references to modern art is inserted and an original and functional solution is added.

SECOND PRIZE: the “Provincia di Verona” prize goes to the “Nomadik” project (download secondprize2007.jpg) by Ettore Soffientini, Milan, for exploring a new type of furniture, which refers to the increasing mobility in domestic contemporary living.

THIRD PRIZE: the “Camera di Commercio di Verona” goes to the “Book Worm” project (download thirdprize2007.jpg) by Giulia Ciliberto, Rome, for her multi-functional object which can be used in very different domestic situations and because it is a project ready for production.

SPECIAL PRIZE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF CEREA - “SCUOLA APPIO SPAGNOLO”: goes to the project “Sedia per letture interrotte” (download Sedia per letture interrotte.jpg) to the group of designers composed of Silvia Vitolini, Benevento, and Paolo Vele, Avellino, students at the Polytechnical of Milan, for a seat contaminated by reading, in such a way that it characterizes its use in an aestethical semplification.

A special nomination also goes to the following projects:

“Leggiondolo” (download Leggiondolo.jpg) by the group composed of: Mark Tamagnini, Davide Costoli, Eugenio Morini, Michela Montanini and Monica Montanini from Reggio Emilia;
“Fensterliterat” (download Fensterliterat.jpg) by Sonja Marzoner, Bolzano;
“Rocco-cò” (download Rococo.jpg) by the group composed of Patrizia Bertolini and Christof Burtscher.
