Museum of Applied Art in Contemporary Furnishings (MAAM)
The Aldo Morelato Foundation has set up an interesting Museum of Applied Art in Contemporary Furnishings (MAAM) in its headquarters in Villa Dionisi in Cerea, managed by the architect Ugo La Pietra and curated by Sophia Los.
Villa Dionisi shows the public a special type of “museum in a museum” where the precious pieces of contemporary design furniture on show in the rooms become small works of art in the settings of a larger work of art, the elegant 18th century villa.
A visit to the Villa Dionisi museum enables the public to emerse themselves in this double situation: they can visit the villa rich in frescos reliving the glorious past of the Dionisi family and see contemporary reality in the precious, high quality design art furniture collection belonging to the Aldo Morelato Foundation.
The works exhibited are experimental models, unique examples of contemporary design applied to artistic furniture. The prototypes on display show over twenty years research and technical experimentation (starting in 1982) into the use of materials link both in style and executive technique to the area’s multi-century production and to historical 20th century furniture; with recovery and reference to Art Decò, Rationalism and Liberty. The items on show are accompanied by their relative project drawings, some with the signature of the most famous furniture designers: Colognese, Castellini, Cordero, De Lucchi, De Muro, Garofano, La Pietra, Lo Porto, Mancini, Mollino, Pozzallo, Raggi, Riva, Rizzato, Salerno, Salvatori, Ulrich, Venosta and many more.
The works are divided into five study categories: Edizioni, Riedizioni, Citazioni, Allusioni, I più piccoli.
Every year, the Collection adds new items created by the winners of the International Competition on Art Applied to Furniture held by the Foundation.
